Updates! Hooray!

I've been working with another member on revamping the character classes. A shiny new PDF has been uploaded for your viewing pleasure. You can view the old one for comparison's sake here. Basically we renamed the Bandit class and got rid of some extraneous class links, such as having to be a Doctor in order to also be a pharmacist. We also added a melee class, the Assault Troopers, with the following branches noticeably named after Roman ranks. We decided that there didn't need to be 3 religions for the Priest class, so we just thought of 3 different sects of the Holy Orange religion for them to follow. Not a whole lot else that's new, other than we're still working, more slowly now, however. Perhaps some updates to come soon!

Progress, slowly but surely

Howdy, all. Just a quick update to let everyone know that we're still working on the game. One of our members that left has returned (albeit on a slightly more part-time schedule than before), and he has been writing our storyline with us. It's very exciting to say the least. We've been designing buildings and ships and characters (oh my!), so hopefully I can get some pics and screenshots soon. We're going to be developing the RTS and the FPS in tandem, so we're working very carefully to make sure that the style is as congruent as possible. The FPS will take place considerably earlier than the RTS, so it won't be completely the same, but you get the idea. Anyway, that's a quick update on the progress. Actually, I'm going to be possibly putting up concepts of the GUI either today or in the next few days, so be expecting that. Tootles.

Update

By the way, we now have a website up for the Ruling Wars: Console™ game. A new link has been added to your left, but you can also access it here.

Also, Build 11-13-07 is up. Basically, there were a few problems with the 11-05-07 build that weren't noticed until today. The header.h file was missing for anyone who wanted to see the project source, and the .exe file was missing for anyone who just wanted to play the game. I fixed that. We should have another new release out soon that has a few more features, including NPCs, combat, larger static maps, and items other than our favorite Shiny Rock™. Enjoy!

Download - Build 11-13-07.

New download system and new build

I decided that considering how small the source files are compared to the executable (at a massive 512 kb) that I will only be offering downloads of the source+executable (previously the executable could be downloaded without source). If you just want to play the game, ignore the source files and click the one with the fancy RW icon.

Ruling Wars build 11-05-07 is released.
Changes:
  • The map now displays empty spaces as spaces, instead of '.'
  • The save file is now human readable
  • Multiple source files for easy editing and collaboration
  • Download

    Correction to previous post

Mr. Motar appears to think that only having the Supreme Rule capable of winning the game was a bug. It is in fact a feature, designed to add realism to the game.

    Announcing: Ruling Wars Version .000000000000000001!

I'm pleased to announce that we have a very pre-alpha release of the game available to everyone. It took some hard work and dedication, but we're finally we're ready to release it. There is a little bug that only allows the Supreme Rule to win, but we're working to fix that so it's fair for every Rule. You can find the download for it here. Unzip the file that's downloaded and you will be ready to play. No installation required! We'll be adding a player's manual soon as well as an in game 'help' command, but the controls are relatively easy to figure out. Use directional commands to move your avatar (N, S, E, W). Hooray!

    Today's Progress...

So today we made a considerable amount of progress. We worked on revising the History of the Rules some, to be more in continuity with our new game. We've also started working on storylines for our new game. In the up and coming weeks, we will begin development of units and character classes. More to come soon!
